Caridina caerulea is a wild endemic of Lake Poso — caerulea is Latin for 'blue', named for exactly those legs.

Home lake: Poso — an ancient tectonic lake in central Sulawesi.

Natural habitat: Shallow gravel and rock shorelines rich in detritus and biofilm.

Behaviour: Bold and social, foraging in large groups across the substrate and rockwork.

Conservation: An extremely narrow natural range under pressure from mining and invasive species. Captive-bred stock takes pressure off the wild population.
