How to identify Extreme Tiny Red

🔴Full-body redAn even red from rostrum to tail, without the patchiness of other red lines.

🐜TinyMarkedly smaller than any other Sulawesi species — it needs a calm tank with no food competition.

🔦Pops on dark scapeDark substrate and rock make the red read strongly despite the small body.

The golden rule: stability beats perfect numbers. A swinging parameter does more damage than one that sits slightly off but never moves. Use a Sula Sand substrate and a dedicated bacteria culture to keep the buffer rock-solid.

Wild species — natural profile

Extreme Tiny Red is a very small-bodied trade line with no formal scientific description. Its origin is attributed to the Malili lake system, but the exact lake is unconfirmed.

Home lake: The Malili lake system — Towuti and its river-connected satellite lakes (exact lake unconfirmed).

Natural habitat: Rubble zones and narrow crevices along the shore where larger species cannot follow.

Behaviour: Very shy, slow moving, and stays tight against rock surfaces.

Conservation: An extremely narrow natural range under pressure from mining and invasive species. Captive-bred stock takes pressure off the wild population.

Keeping note: Best in a species-only tank, or only with small peaceful species so it is not outcompeted at feeding.

Omnivorous, but mostly grazing on biofilm and algae growing on rock. Add the White Powder + Yellow Powder pair for colour and steady breeding, and set the tank on Sula Sand to hold an alkaline pH long-term.
