Airlift UV Filter 9W — Fast, Powerful Green-Water & Bacteria Killer for Shrimp Tanks
Is green water turning your shrimp tank into pea soup so you can't even see your shrimp? Jack Shrimp's Airlift UV Filter pairs a 9W UV-C lamp with our strongest airlift to fix it for good: crystal-clear water in just 2-3 days, plus water sterilization when disease is suspected — all while staying safe for baby shrimp.
Clears green water in 2-3 days (50L tank). Kills free-floating algae & bacteria, blocks baby shrimp/fish from the chamber. All you need is an air stone.
Green water — every shrimp keeper's nightmare
Green water is a bloom of free-floating single-celled algae that clouds the whole tank. Water changes and blackouts only help temporarily; the algae rebounds fast, swings your parameters and stresses the shrimp.
How UV-C kills green water
The airlift pushes water through a chamber lit by UV-C (254nm). UV-C destroys the DNA of the free-floating algae cells, so they stop reproducing, clump together and die. The water clears and green water disappears — usually after just 2-3 days of continuous running on a ~50L tank.
3 main uses
Kill green water: run 2-3 days on a 50L tank and the water clears — fast and powerful.
Sterilize when disease is suspected / mystery deaths: run 1-2 days (50L) to kill free-floating bacteria, then re-dose beneficial bacteria to restore and strengthen the tank.
Trap & kill water bugs: water bugs love strong currents — pack a little white filter wool into the chamber and the airlift flow draws them in and traps them for effective removal.
Note on beneficial bacteria: UV only kills organisms floating through the chamber — it does NOT kill the beneficial bacteria living on your substrate and filter media. Still, after each sterilization run, re-dose beneficial bacteria to help the biofilter stabilize quickly.
Airlift power — maximum throughput
Jack Shrimp tuned its strongest airlift to push as much water through the UV lamp as possible — the more water that gets UV exposure, the higher the algae-kill and sterilization efficiency. It runs entirely on air: just connect one air stone, no electric water pump, no motor noise or vibration.
Safe for shrimp by design
The intake chamber is carefully designed to block baby shrimp and fry from getting inside — run the UV all day without worrying about losing your little ones.
How to use
Connect an air stone to the filter's airlift port.
Place it in the tank and turn on the air pump — the airlift pushes water through the UV chamber.
Green water: run continuously 2-3 days on a ~50L tank until clear.
Sterilize: run 1-2 days (~50L), then turn off UV and re-dose beneficial bacteria.
Trap water bugs: pack a little white filter wool into the chamber.
Safety: do not look directly at the UV-C light while it is on.
